ABOUT CONFERENCE

Welcome to International Conference: Guarding the Way of the Lord. Religious Law versus State Law in Human Experience.

The relationship between state law and religious law has always been an area of potential tension, where the moral expectations of religion meet human experience.

Our conference is dedicated to the relationship between religious and secular law in various contexts and experiences, from a Catholic and Jewish perspective.

The previous project was the ‘First Roman Consultation on Jewish and Canon Law’, which took place at the Gregorian University on 9-11 October 2006, based on the observation that it is important for both Catholics and Jews to act justly in order to achieve justice.

The results were published in 2007 in Periodica de Re Canonica Gregoriana (96, 3-4).

During the conference, the pursuit of justice in religion and society will be our guiding principle. We will discuss various current issues that arise in secular and religious law and place them in a comparative religious perspective: as a project of Jewish-Christian understanding within the framework of the training of rabbis and priests.

The aim of the project is to strengthen cooperation between the two universities (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the University of Potsdam) through better networking and scientific exchange between experts, students and young academics, with a particular focus on theological education.

The School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam and the Centre for Axiology of New Technologies and Social Change at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Faculty of Theology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań are contributing to the content of the conference.
