Prof. Dr. Dr. Burkhard J. Berkmann, born in 1976 in Austria, has been professor of canon law at the Klaus-Mörsdorf Institute of Canon Law of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich (Germany) since 2016.

He owns a doctorate in both law and theology (habilitation) as well as a license degree in canon law. His chair covers the areas of Theological Principles, General Norms, Constitutional Law and Oriental Canon Law.

Comparative law of religions as well as the relationship between the European Union and religious communities are among his primary research interests.
