Jonah Sievers

Rabbi Ben-Chorin at the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue

Rabbi Jonah Sievers has officiated as successor to Rabbi Ben-Chorin at the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue since March 2015.

He studied at the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien (College for Jewish Studies) in Heidelberg from 1996 to 1997 before taking up his studies at the Leo Baeck College in London in 1997.

He was ordained there in 2002 and has since been the community rabbi in Braunschweig. He also looked after other communities in Lower Saxony. In 2008, he was appointed state rabbi. Rabbi Sievers was a founding member of the General Rabbinical Conference (Allgemeine Rabbinerkonferenz, ARK) and served on its board for 18 years.  

He was also a founding member the recently founded Liberal Rabbinic Association (Liberale Rabbinervereinigung) and is the chair person of its responsa commision.
